JEANICE BLANCETT

Starting at pre-school in the 60's, Jeanice entered the world of soaps thinking they were "dull as dirt," believing surely her mom could watch something else while ironing. Fantastic and exciting summer storylines in the 70's and 80's, however, got her hooked. General Hospital's "left-handed boy" had her and her friends on the phone daily comparing notes. Her constant has always been As The World Turns, yet she's added Guiding Light and AMC as must-be-taped shows. Through the years she's kept up with who's who and what's what on most of the other soaps, including following complete storylines that she felt were of merit. Today Jeanice writes Monday recaps for Soap Central's Guiding Light section.

Previous Predictions
This is the first time that Jeanice has made predictions.

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES

My choice and prediction is Guiding Light. Love, murder, angst, betrayal, complete and total surprises, both ignorance and recollections of histories--Guiding Light did it all this year. My only thought as a contender would be OLTL's storyline of Todd's "execution."

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR

My choice/prediction is Ricky Paull Goldin. While each of the other nominees are excellent in portraying their characters, I feel Goldin excels in portraying multi-dimensional levels to his character while still holding onto the core essence of Gus. I feel he should and will win.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS
My choice--Maura West. My prediction--Kim Zimmer. Maura exudes sensuality in every scene, whether it is with a romantic interest or a conversation with a female adversary. She delivers sly, humorous, and biting lines like no other, without being pretentious. Kim's character of Reva, however, had an over-the-top presentation the entire year. Her self-deprecating storyline tugged at heartstrings. While it is the acting which I think should cause Maura to win, I believe it is the storyline that will ultimately win it for Kim.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR

Trent Dawson hands down. He is the quintessential supporting/character actor. Perhaps down the road he'll transform to lead, but for my money there is no way any other actor in this category should win.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS
This one is hard. Torn between Gina Tognoni and Renee Elise Goldsberry. Gina is my hands-down favorite for her complete range from playing wounded child to transformed woman to seductress. Goldsberry, however, also convincingly portrayed a complex and conflicted character. My prediction is mainly based on my choice--Gina Tognoni. But I won't be surprised if Renee wins.

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR
Very tough, but not so tough. Tom Pelphrey has proven to be an amazing young actor. Had I never seen him perform and had to base my vote on his submissions, however, I would not be such a strong supporter. Tom's acting excelled when he interacted characters on Guiding Light other than Tammy. Based on his total performances I predict Tom Pelphrey, no competition.

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS
My choice is Alexandra Chando for her delivery of humor, wit, and intelligence. Unfortunately, however, my prediction is Jennifer Landon, great last year, but pretty one-dimensional for this voting year.

OUTSTANDING WRITING IN A DRAMA SERIES
The Young and The Restless. That is who I believe will win. I would love to see GL win because the writers have a great way of interweaving humor among the pathos. GL won't win, however, because there was too much repetition in the limited storylines they constantly belabored.
